Kart race: getting around downtown

Road closures for the Farmer Auto Village Tauranga Street Race take effect in the central city from 6am on Saturday.

It is at this time that the race organisers commence constructing the track with this expected to take until lunch time.

Saturday afternoon is then for driver practice and for qualifying across the eight different classes.

There are about 130 drivers competing.

The roads closed are:

  •   •  Cameron Road between Elizabeth Street and Third Avenue

  •   •  Elizabeth Street from Cameron Road to Takitimu Drive

  •   •  Glasgow Street, Third Avenue West

  •   •  Plus the surrounding streets from 6th Avenue to Wharf Street along Cameron Road.

These roads are to be reopened on Sunday at 9pm.

Tauranga City Council is advising people who wish to attend the kart race and need somewhere to park their car that the Elizabeth Street Parking Building will be open 9am-6.30pm and is free that day.
