Two bridges slower than one

Traffic between Mount Maunganui and Tauranga was dreadful Wednesday morning, despite being the first time motorists were able to use both harbour bridges.
New Zealand Transport Agency has unofficially opened both bridges; with Mount bound traffic travelling on the new bridge and Tauranga bound traffic on the old one.

Traffic was slow across the harbour bridge on Wednesday morning with both bridges open for the first time. See video below.

There are two lanes operating Mount bound and one lane operating Tauranga bound. It caused severe traffic delays this morning with reports of 40 minute journeys for Tauranga CBD workers that live in Mount Maunganui.
Traffic conditions for the evening rush hour are anyone’s guess.
The bridge is due to be officially opened on Friday, when the Dive Crescent off ramp will also be opened – completing the $255 million Harbour Link Project.
