Tauranga City Council is working to repair what has become a daily issue - the traffic light outage at the intersection of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street.
The lights went out twice today, and have been reported out at least once a day since the start of the week.
The traffic lights at the corner of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street have experienced outages since July.
Callers to the 0800 SunLive news hotline say the lights have been going out continuously for some time now.
Tauranga City Council transportation manager Martin Parkes says there has been an issue with them for the last couple of weeks.
“We initially thought it was a cable issue and we have done some work on that to upgrade certain parts of the system.
“But it now appears there is a systems fault somewhere, which we are currently working on to put right.”
He says to fix the problem the software that operates the light’s system needs to be re-written.
“That may take another few days to resolve. In the meantime we are monitoring that section via our traffic cameras here at the Council.
“So we will be watching traffic movements and safety in the area.”
Martin is warning motorists that the lights may fail again in the next few days while the issue is resolved.
