Rally dry and dusty

About 35 competitors participated in the Otanewainuku Gravel Rallysprint and Round six of the Northern Rallysprint Series on Sunday.
The event was hosted and organised by Motorsport Bay of Plenty and was held on a seven kilometre stretch of road near the TECT All Terrain Park on Pyes Pa Road, State Highway 36.

Cars compete in the Otanewainuku Gravel Rallysprint and Round six of the Northern Rallysprint.

The Motorsport Bay of Plenty car club was already holding the Otanewainuku Gravel Rallysprint but decided to double it as the final round for the Northern Rally Sprint Series.
Linda Loughlin helped organise the event and says competitors found the track dry, dusty and slippery.
“It was a bit more involved organisation wise. Because it was longer, there’s more effort involved,” says Linda.
Ian Wood from the Rotorua Car Cclub, who drove a Subaru Impreza WRX, won the event.
Tauranga’s Phil Campbell came fifth and will soon head to Auckland to compete in the Rally New Zealand Scholarship Weekend.
