Swerving between trucks and motorists, police say they chased a motorcyclist reaching speeds over 160km/h yesterday afternoon, Thursday June 11, on State Highway 29.
Police say they tried to stop the motorcyclist along SH29 near the Hairini roundabout at about 2pm but abandoned chase due to the motorcyclist’s alleged dangerous speeds.
Sergeant Lester Polglase from the Western Bay of Plenty strategic traffic unit says police resumed the chase along SH29 when another unit spotted the motorcyclist.
Police again abandoned the chase at Barkes Corner, where SH 29 meets SH 36, because of the alleged dangerous speeds of the motorcycle.
“At one point he was passing between trucks at 150km/h,” says Lester.
Police are seeking information about the motorcyclist, who they say wore a red and white bike helmet.
