Severe weather watch for Bay

The MetService has issued a severe weather watch for the Bay of Plenty.

A comples trough is moving slowly east over the country this weekend the MetService warning says and it will affect Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Taranaki.

It says two deep lows embedded within this trough are expected to affect northern and southern parts of the country during this time.

Strong south-westerlies are expected to spread over much of New Zealand behind this trough, with rain affecting the far south.

A warning for severe gales is in force for Northland and Banks Peninsula including the Port Hills.

Tauranga’s weather is forcast for periods of rain, a chance of thunder and winds turning a strong southerly today. The high is expected to be 18C with an overnight low of 9C.
