Investigations ongoing into crash

Police continue to investigate the cause of this morning’s crash on State Highway 29A, in Tauranga.

Two people were transported to Tauranga hospital with serious injuries and another two people have minor injuries after a crash near the Maungatapu Bridge earlier this morning, Police Media Centre says.

Police confirm diversions are in place but there is sever congestion in the area and have asked motorist to be patient and avoid the area where possible. SunLive reported earlier traffic was gridlock on Hono Street and Taipari Street.

Both lanes on SH29A were closed after a multiple car crash this morning. Transit New Zealand Agency says diversions are in place at SH2/SH29A roundabout, directing traffic along SH2, SH2A and back to Maungatapu roundabout. The media release says the reverse is happening the reverse direction from Maungatapu roundabout.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash and expect the road to be reopen in the next two hours.

Meanwhile, a SunLive reporter witnessed a fender bender at the roundabout of Hairini Street and Welcome Bay road where are vehicles has hit into the back of a security company vehicle. He was unsure if there were any injuries however, ambulance and police were at the scene.
