Blast away those winter blues

Bay Rodders Tauranga has the cure for anyone suffering from the winter blues this year – a trip to the circus!

Their WinterBlast 2015 Fun Run and Swap Meet drives into town today for a weekend of fun based on the theme ‘Welcome to the Circus’.

Spokesperson Cathi Barker says WinterBlast is an opportunity for their members to meet other car club members from all over New Zealand.

“Last year there were 63 cars and more than 146 people registered from 14 clubs from as far as Whanganui, Whangarei and even Queensland in Australia.

“It’s so nice to see regulars and newcomers, this year’s turn should be excellent and everyone in the club is really excited as this is an event with so much fun.”

Tonight kicks the event begins with a registration plus meet-and-greet evening at Hotel Armitage on Willow St, from 6pm-8pm.

For people staying at the hotel: quote ‘Winter Blast’ when you book and you’ll go into the prize draw for one night’s free accommodation.

On Saturday morning everyone will gather at the hotel before embarking on a mystery run at 10.30am. Lunch will also be provided during the cruise.

“It’s for a couple hours around the region and there’ll be stops where silly activities have to be performed, it’ll be great!”

Then from 6.30pm tomorrow night a dinner will be held for guests plus a prizegiving at Hotel Armitage, with live music provided by Whangamata band Roadrunner.

This year’s theme is ‘Welcome to the Circus’ which Cathi says should be absolutely hilarious.

“It’s incredible the work people put into dressing up for this night.”

Sunday’s swap meet from 9am-2pm in the Durham St Carpark will wrap the event up. This is open to the public.

“My husband and I have our costumes ready and a house full staying with us that weekend and we’re really looking forward to it – we can’t wait!”
