Up there where the air is clear

Aviation displays including a mix of classic, sports, military aircraft and gliders filled the skies above Tauranga at the weekend, when the Classics of The Sky Tauranga City Air Show took flight.

Flying over the city’s airport once again, the dynamic event featured static and flying aviation displays, a mix of classic, sports, military aircraft and gliders, along with local NZ Police teams and other displays.

The Classics of the Sky Tauranga City Airshow was an associated event with the Mount Truck Show 2016, with proceeds from the truck show going to Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter charity.

“We thought this was a fitting charity to support as we are also combining the truck show with an air show,” says Mount Truck Show 2016 organiser Alex Salter.

“The TrustPower TECT Rescue helicopter provides an amazing service to people in need
and are always on the lookout for help.”

The Theme of this year’s Classics of The Sky Tauranga City Airshow was Spitfire at Sunset, with one of the world’s few two seater Spitfire aircraft arriving early to the event to take some lucky people for rides.

The Ardmore based warbird normally charges close to $4000 for a half hour ride but dropped the price to $3000 for a few lucky punters, including John Troughton.

Visitors were captivated by the variety of trucks.
