October 9: The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride – Tauranga

One day each year, thousands of Distinguished Gentleman and genteel lady folk in cities worldwide – including Tauranga – press their cravats, starch their tweed and sit astride their classic-styled motorcycles to raise funds for prostate cancer research and mental health awareness.

About 150 riders are expected at the Tauranga event on October 9, which starts in Papamoa about 10am. To join the Tauranga ride.


October 12: Targa NZ Legends Night Dinner

Share the excitement as the Targa legends take to the stage while dining at Wairakei Resort, State Highway 1, Wairakei, Taupo, from 6.30pm-10pm.

Hear the real stories at an unforgettable night celebrating some true legends of Targa’s 50th event celebrations. A celebrity host and Targa NZ legends Tony Quinn, Racing Ray Williams plus many more. Relive their moments of glory, their crushing defeats and hear their 2016 predictions.


October 15: The NZXC Cross-country Series at Matata

In its second year, the popular NZXC dirt bike series is coming to the Bay for its fourth round. Only the best five out of six rounds in series are counted, with contestants discarding their one worst score.

Round four, a Grand National Cross Country Series event, is at the Burt Farm, Matata. Details:

October 16: Oceanside automotive-only swap meet

Hosted by Oceanside Street Rods Inc outside their Cherokee Place clubroom at Mount Maunganui from 7am. The swap meet will have display of club members’ pre-1949 hotrods – and swappers and buyers of strictly automotive-only parts are welcome. Swappers entry is $10 and buyers entry is $5. Under 12s enter for free.

October 21-23: The NZV8 Pickup Roundup in Taupo

Hosted by the USA Haulers Club NZ, the event is open to all USA-type pick-up/panel trucks from the early-1900s, vintage restored, classics, hotroded through to the brand new off the factory floor. The two-day event starts with a fun-filled Saturday mystery run leaving from Chantilly’s Motor Lodge by 10am followed by an evening of food and entertainment at a yet-to-be-announced venue. Sunday sees everyone park up at Tongariro Domain. There will be trophies, spot prizes, trade displays and more.
