The Thames-Coromandel District Council says Waikawau Bay Rd will be closed for up to two weeks while two bridges north of Colville are replaced.
The road will be closed from June 29 to July 13, but these dates are dependent on favourable weather during this period and any changes will be notified via council’s website and road signage.

Council says the two bridges to be replaced are: Waikawau Bridge No.3 and Waikawau Bridge No.4.
“The bridges will be replaced at the same time to make the project more cost effective and minimise inconvenience to road users,” says council.
“The reason we are replacing the bridges is to provide for overweight vehicles and mobile rock crushing equipment, without having to provide temporary bridge propping.”
Access to Waimanu Road, a side road between the two bridges, will be maintained during the period of road closure.
“We apologise to the public for any inconvenience and if you have any queries please get in touch with our Customer Services Team.”
