The road toll in the Western Bay of Plenty over Queen’s Birthday Weekend was lower than 2008, despite fears weather conditions could create problems.
There were no road fatalities over the long weekend on Western Bay of Plenty roads.
Police recorded 13 crashes in total over the long weekend on the region’s roads, which were a mixture of injury and non injury accidents.
During Queen’s Birthday weekend last year there were three fatalities, 27 serious injuries and 139 minor injuries recorded across the country.
Senior sergeant Ian Campion says the Western Bay was fortunate that crashes were down on 2008, particularly given the forecast weather.
