May 6: Season Finale Fireworks Mega Event – Baypark

Baypark Family Speedway is ending its season with a bang – with $20,000 worth of fireworks going up in smoke. The Super Stock Rumble will have 36 cars racing at one time – the most ever allowed by Speedway NZ – with entries from Auckland to Wellington. The Harry Fredrickson Stock Car Gold Cup will have 50 cars racing at one time – the most ever allowed by Speedway NZ – with entries from Auckland to Wellington too. 

This will be the first and possibly only time this many Super Stocks and Stock Cars will be seen racing at the same event without being broken into groups or heats. Then there’s the Sprint Car Bay Championships, final rounds of the La-z-boy Saloon Car Series, super saloons – and the night concluding with the Fireworks Extravaganza.Gates open 5pm with racing starting 6.30pm and fireworks finishing 10pm. May 7: Eastern Bay of Plenty Classic Car Breakfast

This is open to American, Australian, European and British cars - but sorry no Jappas! It’s all about admiring the lovely classics. Meet at the Red Barn Bakery & Café,
237 Thornton Rd, Whakatane, from 8am-10.30am.

May 13: The NZ Cross Country Championship – Cambridge

If you’re into two-wheeled engines then it’s worth checking out the 2017 NZ Cross Country Championship final round at Cambridge, which is also the North Island Championships. Riders best three rounds count for the NZ championship – so be prepared for some last-ditch efforts to clinch the titles on offer. For more information, see: www.cambridgemx.co.nz

May 13: Moto TT – Lake Taupo

If you’re a novice or a fast rider this event has four different speed groups you can book into to get more time on the track from 7.30am-4.30pm at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park. The trackdays are designed for qualified riders holding a NZ driver licence with a motorcycle class 6 category, an Motorcycling NZ issued licence or overseas equivalent. If you want to get back on your bike, you’ll have to book in asap.
