First things first, this car has an impressive amount of stars for everything. 5-star ANCAP safety rating, 5-star CANSTAR award for most satisfied customers (third year in a row, no less) and a 5-star smile on the driver’s dial.
There’s no doubt, owning the new Suzuki Swift SR will turn lunch dates with your chums into a coffee and a ‘sorry, gotta go’, just so you can get back in the driving seat.
And you can just drive and drive too – with fuel consumption at just 4.8L per 100km you’ll barely get to see a petrol station forecourt.
The new Swift SR is a striking car, with immediate street appeal. The previous model Swifts were certainly a sporty-looking car, but the SR takes sporty, deep fries it and eats it as a snack. I couldn’t believe this was a Suzuki Swift.
Stepping inside the Swift SR, you’re greeted with superbly comfortable seats and a clear, crisp interior layout. The leather-bound steering wheel has a touch of class – smooth, grippy and gives a feeling of quality.
The standard list of features is impressive.
Some of the items on it would set you back thousands with other manufacturers, but Suzuki gives you a very generous amount of toys, gizmos and doo-dahs.
The central display gives you all sorts of options to fine-tune your driving experience, from connecting your phone, choosing your tunes, finding your way with GPS and all sorts of other acronyms like USB, SD and MP3. Not to mention Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity, there’s everything a modern driver needs.
The Swift SR is powered by a 1.25L, 4-cylinder engine that produces a nippy 66kW@6000RPM.
Coupled with a CVT automatic transmission, it has enough power to tear up the mean streets of the city landscape.
If being green is important to you, then you won’t feel guilty in the Swift.
The emissions are super low, thanks to its minute fuel consumption. In all the time I drove it, the fuel gauge didn’t move one single bit – and we had it a good few hours.
It also handles like it looks.
No one could drive this car and say they found it a problem. It zips around winding city streets and practically parks itself, it’s so manoeuvrable. The Swift SR also boasts some mighty 17-inch wheels.
That’s big wellies for a small car!
Speaking of looks, you can fine-tune the Swift to your taste with a great choice of vivid colours. The ‘Burning Red’ model jumps out at you, with a red that pops, offset by the black roof which gives the Swift a low, sleek look. You can also have Pure White, Super Black, Premium Silver or my favourite, Speedy Blue.
It doesn’t end there, however.
The enormous amount of options available for tweaking interior and exterior trim will keep you planning for hours, ending up with a car so uniquely you that people will think Suzuki commissioned it just for you.
Mirror covers, dashboard inlays, decals, steps, door trim inserts. You can tweak them all in several different colours.
There’s a range of other accessories too, such as arm rests and bike racks – and if you’re like me and like a nice floor mat, there’s lots of options there too.
Not only has Suzuki successfully reinvented one of the most popular cars of its time, Suzuki is willing to back it too.
The Swift SR ‘Real Value’ package comes with a five-year/100,000km comprehensive warranty, a five-year/100,000km powertrain warranty and a five-year roadside assistance plan. That’s peace of mind right there.
Suzuki’s Real Value prices for the Swift SR start at $21,990 for the manual, or $23,990 for the automatic variant, plus on-road costs.
Just go back and read those numbers again.
All the stars, all the fun and all the awesomeness for such a small price makes the Swift SR incredible value for money.
If you want to try a Swift out for yourself, then get some great excuses ready to ditch your friends and get to Tauranga Motor Company on Cameron Road to test drive one today. You could easily buy one on looks alone.
